The cybercriminals manufactured fake crypto wallets, which were installed with malware to further steal funds.
Law enforcement officers of Ukraine have detained a number of persons suspected of stealing cryptocurrency from crypto wallets and laundering money “on an especially large scale” for international cybercriminal groups.
As it was established during the investigation, the suspects disguised themselves on the darknet under different pseudonyms and used a network of dummies and financial services to legalize funds obtained by criminal means. They also made fake crypto wallets, on which they installed malware to further steal funds.
During searches of suspects 'homes, police officers seized hardware and software used to infect users' devices with malware and launder money. With which groups the suspects collaborated, the police did not report.
The investigation of the case continues.
