On the evening of December 30, many users of the Poloniex cryptocurrency exchange received strange letters notifying them of a forced password reset. Although users initially mistook these messages as a scam, it soon turned out that the leak, which had to resort to such measures, actually happened.

As representatives of the exchange later confirmed, they really initiated a password reset for many users, as they discovered a suspicious list of email addresses and passwords on Twitter. It has been argued that these credentials can be used to log into Poloniex accounts. And although the administration of the exchanger assures that most of the logins and passwords did not fit Poloniex accounts, it was still decided to reset the passwords for all accounts whose email address was actually used to register on the exchange.

It has not yet been reported how many credentials covered the list highlighted on Twitter, and how many users of the exchange could be at risk of compromise. Representatives of the resource have not yet made an official statement about the incident, and they do not respond to media inquiries.
