We remember how in 2011 Google made numerous high-profile statements about mobile payments with NFC technology. Now, however, news of this kind has subsided considerably. At the same time, developments in the field of cloud payments carried out by PayPal have clearly intensified.

A few days ago, Google published information that the mobile wallet developed by the company will not support prepaid cards. This decision was made after tests for the safety of users' personal information, as a result of which the information turned out to be vulnerable. According to Lara Albert, director of marketing at Globys, cloud payments have great promise, but NFC payments should not be charged off. Also, do not forget one more important point. When Apple releases the next-generation iPhone with a built-in NFC chip, the balance of power in the market will definitely change.

Observations show that companies are beginning to pay more and more attention to cloud payments. NFC payments are clearly inferior in this regard. Despite the fact that Google and Isis (a joint company of Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile USA and AT&T) were the loudest announced their successes and far-reaching plans in the field of NFC payments, it seems that we will not hear anything new from them until at least April this year. of the year. This is due to a number of problems in the US domestic market.

In addition, Google is faced with the fact that not many users actually have access to the Google Wallet service. Namely - the owners of smartphones Samsung Galaxy Nexus. However, once the Motorola acquisition campaign is successfully completed, new phone models with Google Wallet support are expected to appear. This should happen before the end of 2021.

Experts note that the ability to make purchases using a mobile application on a smartphone is quite promising. But the situation with NFC payments does not look so promising for the reason stated above. Only smartphone manufacturers can solve this problem by installing the necessary software in them. In the case of NFC, it is also worth noting the insufficient number of parties interested in promoting this technology. This factor also affects the high cost of promoting a service. As a result, cloud payments look much more attractive.

Ms Albert added that an increasing number of companies are "eyeing" the prospect of cloud payments. “After all, it is much easier for both the buyer and the seller to install the necessary software and start carrying out operations with cloud payments. I assume that the option of storing personal data of users in the cloud is more reliable than storing it on a mobile device, ”she said.

To summarize, there is a common problem faced by both NFC and cloud payments. It sounds something like this - how to win more users and what factor will be decisive for most of them.
