The international payment system MasterCard has published the basic rules for protecting against fraud with a bank card, which users must follow in order not to become a victim of criminals.
What to do if there are suspicions of fraud with your card
If you suspect that you have been the victim of a scam, immediately report it to your bank. The bank can cancel the card and issue a new one. If the card is in your possession, but illegal transactions were carried out on it, inform the bank about it and demand the issuance of a new card. Transactions that you did not make, but the funds were debited from the card, you can always appeal by contacting the bank. If the bank confirms that it was a fraudulent operation, the money will be returned to your card.
- Sign new cards immediately upon receipt.
- Keep your card number and personal identification number (PIN) secret from others.
- Check periodically that all of your cards are in place.
- Destroy copies of receipts, tickets and other documents where your card number is indicated.
- Remember your PIN.
- Find out about unfamiliar companies at your local consumer advocacy organization.
- Do not pass on information to others that could be used by fraudsters.
- Never give anyone the password to access your account via the Internet.
- Do not share your account information with anyone, except when making a purchase using that account.
