How to protect payment cards from fraudsters

During the pre-New Year discount period, customers will actively use payment cards to pay for purchases on the Internet and in traditional stores. Today, theft of payment information is the most common method of fraud and requires additional security measures from cardholders, especially during sales. Research by GfK Ukraine shows that Ukrainians are poorly aware of payment card protection methods.

1. Do not rush to make payments in mobile applications
Before entering your billing information and personal information into various applications and mobile wallets, you should pay attention to the comments of other users regarding security, as well as read the information about the developer's policy. It is also best not to make purchases on mobile apps over public Wi-Fi, as transactions over the public network are more susceptible to hacking.

2. Protect your PINs and passwords
Regularly change your PIN-codes and do not use the same the same password for multiple sites, providing financial services. Do not share your PIN codes with third parties, including family members.

3. Control your accounts
Regularly check the balance of your payment card, as well as set up sms- notification about any transactions with the account. Also, if you have a credit card, request your account statement several times a year to track the transactions you haven't made in time.

4. Save your receipts
Save receipts for large online payments and purchases in traditional stores, especially if they were made with a credit card. In the event of a shortage of money in the account, you can easily compare your costs.

5. Use to the arts with a microchip
IC card, also known f as a smart card ( MasterCard and Visa) are less vulnerable to skimming at ATMs, as well as less falsified.

This year, the popular Black Friday sales day will be held in Ukraine. The event will be attended by large online stores.
