Lincolnshire County police confiscated 48 bitcoins and other crypto assets from the teenager, totaling more than £ 2 million, accusing him of fraud and money laundering through cryptocurrencies.

According to police, a 17-year-old teenager, whose name has not been revealed because he is still a minor, has created a phishing site that mimics the Internet resource of Love2Shop, a company that sells digital gift cards and certificates. The teenager advertised his website through the online service Google Ads. Thinking that they were visiting the real site, visitors left personal data on the fraudulent platform.

Love2Shop launched its own investigation in April 2020 over customer complaints, after which the teen disabled the phishing site. By then, the juvenile delinquent had managed to steal £ 6,500 worth of gift certificates, which he converted into Love2Shop certificates in his own account and used to buy bitcoins.

According to local newspaper Lincolnshire Live, police found 12,000 credit card numbers and 197 PayPal accounts on the teenager's computer, from which he stole a total of £ 323,000.

Also, law enforcement officers seized 48 bitcoins, the value of which at the time of the arrest of the teenager in August 2020 was approximately £ 200 thousand, and currently exceeds £ 2 million.

The court sentenced the young "phisher" to 1 year in a youth rehabilitation center and 150 hours of community service.
