There is a special standard in Russia, GOST 50862-2005. This GOST regulates the burglary and fire resistance of safes and safe deposit boxes. Bank vaults are being built taking into account its requirements.

The standard provides for such a concept as a class of burglary resistance. There are 12 classes in total (two primary classes, then from 1 to 10). The higher the number, the higher the burglary resistance. The bank vault has a burglary resistance class close to the maximum. However, if you want to buy a very burglar-resistant safe - you will not find on sale higher than the fourth, maximum, the fifth class! Do not produce. At least serially. But there are serial safes in the vaults. How so?

Here's the thing. There are many serious requirements for bank vault. In fact, the storage room itself is a safe of a certain burglary resistance. The room is certified and receives its own burglary resistance class (3-4 class usually). But inside it there is already a safe with a burglary resistance class of 4 or 5. In total, a rather high class is recruited.

In order for a room to have the required burglary resistance, a number of conditions must be met. Firstly, the premises should not have common walls with the street. Those. it is located somewhere in the middle of the building, most often in the basement. The walls must be specially reinforced (reinforcement in several layers, criss-crossing). Not only walls, but also ceilings! Concrete is not trivial B10, but immediately B30 - this is used in the construction of bridges and bank vaults. Well, the door - to match the task. A full-fledged bank door, weighing a couple of hundred kilograms. With a lock of the appropriate class.

One or more safes are located inside this room. I happened to be in a bank branch under construction, where I sold a safe of the fourth class of burglary resistance. It weighed 600 kg and was only a little over a meter high. About twenty meters or something. The key from it was 30 centimeters long (!). And he completely entered the door of the safe, only the handle of the key was sticking out from the outside.
