Experts from the American company Kneron conducted an interesting experiment in which they tried to find out how reliable the face recognition systems used in areas requiring a high level of security, such as airports, border checkpoints, banks, etc., are.
The study was conducted in various countries. For the experiment, the specialists used a high-quality 3D mask created over the face of another person. Using this mask, they managed to trick Alipay and WeChat payment terminals, as well as facial recognition systems at a border crossing in China and at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, writes Business Insider.
The results obtained clearly showed that, using a realistic mask, it is quite possible to go through checkpoints at airports or make purchases under the guise of another person. However, not all face recognition technologies have proven to be vulnerable. For example, the researchers failed to trick the biometric identification systems of Huawei and Apple Face ID, since they involve more sophisticated technologies. However, Face ID is not so perfect, experts from the Vietnamese company Bkav have demonstrated - they managed to trick the system with a mask costing $ 150.
