According to a new report of Nilson the Report, in 2021, with six cards of global payment systems Visa, UnionPay, MasterCard, JCB, Diners Club / Discover and American Express 227 080 000 000 was carried out purchases, which is 16.1% more than in since 2020. 55.52% of all transactions were made with Visa cards (Visa Inc. and Visa Europe). The largest number of purchases were made with Visa debit cards (35.5%). They are followed by Visa credit cards (20.02%), MasterCard credit cards (13.14%), MasterCard debit cards (13.13%), UnionPay credit cards (6.79%), UnionPay debit cards (6%) , American Express cards (3.21%), JCB cards (1.23%) and Diners Club / Discover cards (0.98%).

Last year, the number of UnionPay debit and credit card transactions at merchants rose 47%. Compared to the previous year, the number of transactions increased by 9.28 billion, which is more than the increase for MasterCard (8.09 billion), but less than for Visa (13.16 billion).

Debit and prepaid cards accounted for 54.63% of all purchase transactions. In 2020, this figure was 54.05%. Visa debit cards accounted for 63.95% of transactions (63.71% last year). For MasterCard, this figure was 49.98% (47.86% last year), for UnionPay - 46.9% (46% last year).

At the end of 2015, the total number of credit, debit and prepaid cards in circulation reached 10.25 billion, an increase of 8.2% over the previous year. Of these: UnionPay cards - 53.07% (52.09% last year), Visa cards - 28.95%, (30.23% in 2014), MasterCard -15.35% (14.96% in 2014 ), American Express - 1.15% (1.18% in 2014), JCB - 0.91%, (0.93% in 2014) and Diners Club / Discover - 0.56% (0.60% in 2014 ).

Of the total number of cards in circulation, 75.94% were debit cards (74.61% a year earlier). The number of cards of this type in circulation increased by 716.3 million compared to an increase in the number of credit cards of 61.4 million.

In terms of purchase volume, UnionPay debit cards became the most popular payment instrument, followed by Visa credit cards, surpassing debit cards of the same brand. The fourth place belongs to UnionPay credit cards. This is followed by MasterCard credit cards, MasterCard debit cards and American Express credit cards.
