Tox
Tox is a protocol for decentralized text, voice and video communication on the Internet based on asymmetric encryption. The reference implementation of the protocol is free software with open source code, providing a full set of familiar functions: voice and video communication, conference mode with several participants, indicating and changing the network status, emoticon support, screen sharing, the ability to send instant messages and transfer files. No advertising. It is positioned as an open, free, backdoor-free and non-spying alternative to Skype.

Element
Element.io(formerly Riot.im) is a free cross-platform messenger that runs on the Matrix protocol and is distributed under the Apache license. Thanks to the use of a federated protocol, the user can connect to any Matrix server and communicate with users of other servers on the shared network.
In addition to instant text messaging and chatting,Elementcan be used to transfer files, send notifications, organize teleconferences, and make voice and video calls. The messenger supports end-to-end encryption, which is used by default for all private chats.
The element UI does not have a proxy function, so to use it with TOR, you need to run it in the console with additional parameters

Session
Session messenger is an open decentralized messenger (former Loki Messenger) based on the Oxen ecosystem (former Loki blockchain), which supports end-to-end encryption based on the Signal protocol, as well as the removal of some metadata. This messenger allows you to exchange messages and various files with a minimum amount of user metadata.
When creating an account, a random unique ID is generated like this: 05652245af9a8bfee4f5a8138fd5c ... After that, you can send this ID to the contacts you want, or scan and send a QR code.
Another fundamental component of this messenger is the onion routing protocol and the so-called onion requests, which allowSessionto hide their IP addresses by creating a random path through 3 serving nodes in the network.Sessionalso supports multi-devices and asynchronous (offline) messaging mode.
The disadvantages include low performance and, as a result, message delivery with a noticeable delay, as well as increased network traffic consumption (typical of all decentralized messengers).
All of the above messengers do not require phone numbers and e-mail for registration (in element it depends on the settings of the server on which you register).

All the above-mentioned messengers do not require phone numbers and e-mail for registration (in element it depends on the settings of the server on which you register).
Friends, who have already used the above-mentioned messengers for communication, tell us how convenient they are, what you liked more, were there any disadvantages, well, and describe your general impressions of using the applications. We will be glad to receive any feedback!
