What is an online checkout
Online cash register is a new generation cash register equipment that can work with electronic fiscal storage devices (FN) that send data on transactions to the tax service (through fiscal data operators, hereinafter referred to as FDO) through a communication network with Internet access.

In fact, there is no term "online cash register", cash register equipment (CRE) has remained so. The mechanism of fiscalization and printing of receipts has changed. Now the electronic and paper versions are equivalent, and the priority is given to the electronic version, since fiscal data is now stored in special data centers (at the OFD) and automatically transferred to the Federal Tax Service.

How the online checkout works
  1. The seller enters the amount received from the buyer. Depending on the technical capabilities of the cashier, an electronic catalog may be available - in it, it is enough to select a position and indicate the quantity.
  2. The cash register forms an electronic check and sends it to the fiscal accumulator.
  3. There the data is fiscalized.
  4. The data is returned to the checkout.
  5. Depending on the configuration of the equipment and the type of transaction, the check can be printed on paper, or it can be sent to the client in electronic form.
  6. At the same time, the receipt data is transmitted to the OFD.
  7. OFD stores information about receipts on its servers and duplicates it in the Federal Tax Service on a schedule.

Who needs an online checkout
All entrepreneurs and organizations that sell goods and provide services to the public. It is easier to name the exceptions - we will consider them below.
  • All merchants are required to apply the online CRE.
  • The need has spread to legal entities involved in the sale of goods operating under patents and imputed taxes.
  • The obligation to use online cash registers extended to the owners of vending machines and many others, including individual entrepreneurs who previously issued BSOs, as well as individual entrepreneurs on UTII and PSN without employees who sell other people's goods, individual entrepreneurs to PSN and UTII who have employees and provide services to the public.
Legal entities working in remote and hard-to-reach areas (the list is determined in each separate region), as well as individuals working under an experimental taxation system for the self-employed (so far only in several regions) remain in a special position.

But, for example, the use of new CREs for settlements between a legal entity and citizens selling goods / services under the "tax on professional income" tax regime is mandatory.

Who is released
At the moment, the exemption is, for example, for such categories of entrepreneurs and organizations providing services:
  • sales of agricultural products and a number of non-food products at markets, fairs and from transport (bottled drinks, milk, kerosene, fish, etc.), as well as products of folk art and handicrafts;
  • cutting firewood, plowing areas;
  • caring for the disabled, children and the elderly;
  • making keys from locks, repairing clothes and shoes;
  • catering in schools;
  • renting out housing (applies only to individual entrepreneurs, if the apartment or house is in his ownership);
  • sales of newspapers / magazines;
  • reception of various waste materials (except for precious metals, stones and scrap metal).

How to register and connect an online cashier step by step
The standard algorithm for all:
  1. Choose and buy a new cash register with a new generation fiscal drive or upgrade the existing one (if possible).
  2. Select the OFD and conclude an agreement with it.
  3. Make sure that the FIAS directory (federal information address system, the page on the tax website - contains the address where the cash register equipment will be installed. missing data The application will need to be accompanied by documents of title that can confirm the existence of the address.
  4. Submit an application in the prescribed form to your tax authority. This can be done in two ways:
    1. In person on paper.
    2. In electronic form through the taxpayer's personal account (the operation is available only with a qualified electronic signature (QES), it is issued by authorized organizations and requires annual renewal). It is best to choose the option with a QES: the presence of a signature will facilitate the procedure for interacting with the OFD and other organizations, and will allow you to submit reports online.
  5. The tax service assigns a unique number to the equipment, which must be entered into the fiscal accumulator. After receiving the number, the taxpayer is allocated 1 working day for the input operation. If you applied on paper, you will need to report to the tax authority for the number.
  6. The data is entered into the FN. The procedure is very responsible, so in case of an error, you will have to purchase a new drive. At the exit, you must receive a ten-digit number to complete the procedure on the FTS website.
  7. Fiscalization parameters are entered on the tax office website. The result of the procedure will be the receipt of a registration card (in electronic form). You cannot punch checks before receiving the card.
  8. It remains to enter the registration data in the personal account of the OFD.
  9. The best place to start is with a test payment. To make sure everything is set up correctly and working.

Types of online checkouts
  • Button terminals. Provide minimal functionality. First of all, they are suitable for enterprises with special modes. When it is enough to knock out the amount to confirm the fact of the purchase. For example, taxi, catering, beauty salons, etc.
  • Separate fiscal registrars. They are connected as external devices to terminals or cashier workstations. In some cases, they can work even without a cash register, for example, when interacting with an accounting program. They can be used in large trade enterprises, where cashiers' workplaces are built on a PC basis.
  • SMART terminals. They are built on the basis of tablets or large touch screens. Suitable for a wide range of tasks and any profile of the enterprise. They can take over all the functions of the cashier's workplace.
